There is no gift greater than the gift of Jesus Christ.
When you become a Christian, you are accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. What does that mean? There are some things we have to understand first.
First, we have to realize that we have sin in our life.
Romans 3:23 in the Bible says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Second, we have to realize what we deserve for our sin.
Romans 6:23 in the Bible says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Third, we have to understand what God did for us.
Romans 5:8 in the Bible says, "But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us!"
So we have to realize our own sin, realize we deserve death for our sin, and realize that God sent Jesus to die in our place. Then,
Fourth, we have to Confess and Believe.
Romans 10:9-10 in the Bible says, "if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."
What does that mean, "God raised Him from the dead?"
Jesus Christ died a very brutal death in our place. He was crucified on a Roman cross and then buried in a tomb. But, three days later, Jesus was raised from the dead by the Father and now is a living God.
So can't I just be a good person and still go to Heaven?
No. Ephesians 2:8-9 in the Bible says, "For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God's gift - not from works, so that no one can boast."
Can't I just go to church regularly and still get to Heaven?
No. We are allowed into Heaven through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Becoming a Christian is the single most important decision you will ever make. Jesus Christ loves you and desires a relationship with you. All we have to do is confess with our mouths, believe in our hearts, and we can have that relationship.
