In the future I am going to preach a series of messages centered on Heaven. I am curious about something…What do you think? What do you believe about heaven? Share with me and help me prepare to preach this series. I have some ideas and beliefs but I want to know what you believe. So here’s you chance to preach your sermon. I want to hear from you. Think it through. Read your Bible. Where is Heaven? Who will go there? When will they go? Can you be certain that you will go? I am waiting…
I believe that one of the greatest problems facing families today is priorities. What do you do and what do you not do? What is the most important thing to do? This issue seems to be a big one during this time of the year. There are so many activities to choose from. As a parent you must decide if your children go to church regularly or do they get involved in the activities that take them away from church. Do you want them to be popular among their peers? As adults we face an equally pressured decision. The weather is beautiful so you just stay home on Sunday or you plan a family activity that forces you out of church. What do you do?
Well I don’t want to add to the pressure but I do have some advice for this type of decision making. Consider the event and weigh it on an eternal scale. What is more important things that will fade in a few weeks and certainly over a long period of time will not matter or things that will last into eternity. There really are only two things that are eternal your soul and The Word of God. (See Luke 21:33) As a father of a son who is now 27 I can tell you that there are things that seem really important now that in the future will not even be a priority in your memory. So be careful of the decisions that you make and be certain to put the eternal issues ahead of earthly issues.
Let me hear from you.
Have you ever started something new and then just a little ways into it stopped what you were doing. That’s what I have done with this blog. No excuses I just stopped. I really don’t have a good reason! So with new found committment I will once again blog with you. So…
Have you? Have you ever started something new and then just stopped? Here’s the challenge for me. When you commit stay with it. You will never know the end of the journey if you don’t continue to travel. May God lead you in your endeavors and strengthen you in your commitment to finish what you start. The Bible says in Philippians 1:6 “I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” I want to be like Jesus in this regard. How about you?
From time to time people come to me and ask what I think is the most important thing they can do for God. Often they have some ideas and are really asking me to rate them. Some believe they are pushing the envelope if they attend church regularly on Sunday morning while others believe they must be present every time the church meets or they have not accomplished anything for Him. Still others view other aspects of Christian service as the really important things they do for God. Things like teaching and ushering or visiting or singing in the choir. So, without further delay, let me tell you what I believe to be the most important thing you can do for God; obey Him in whatever He says. Listen for His voice and obey Him. I think the scripture in John 2 is good advice for the Christian. This is the incident where Jesus attends the wedding in Cana and turns the water into wine. In the conversation recorded for us Jesus’ mother tells the servants to, “…Do what ever He tells you…” Thanks Mary for letting us in on the most important thing. Obeying God is the most important thing you can do as you walk along in your Christian experience. Many times people come and say they want to know God’s will for their lives, when actually they have already heard from Him and simply need to obey. The most important thing you can do for God is obey Him!
If there is one thing I am certain of it is that prayer helps. The Bible says we are to pray constantly. In fact prayer makes all the difference in every situation of life. So I will pray for you and seek your prayer for me as I study to preach. I know that you do not come to hear from me but to hear from God. So pray for me that I will have a fresh word from Him that will come from time I have spent with Him. Pray for me as I make decisions concerning matters at NBC. Pray that I will make good decisions that reflect what I have learned from God. I sign my name with the following verse of scripture:
Ephesians 6:19: Pray also for me, that the message may be given to me when I open my mouth to make known with boldness the mystery of the Gospel.
Pray! Give it a try!
I believe that there comes a time in a person’s life when you have to accept somethings. I recently read yet another article on Creation Theory. Which led to the question about the existence of God. I am amazed at educated people who want to question the existence of God and His role in creation. There is no debate for the Christian.
Here are somethings that Christian people must accept and believe with all your heart.
1. God is God
2. The only creation Theory that really makes sense is the one written about in the Bible which modern people want to call Intelligent Design.
3. Faith in Jesus Christ is the only thing that will really matter when this .life is over.
